Just wanted to stop in and say that I listened to that Planet Money podcast too, and it did not say that the price of college has not gone up. They said that private colleges inflate their tuition and the cost of it gets born by student loans (which includes gov't aid).
ReplyDeleteAlso glad to hear the arguments against legalizing drugs in that Weekly Standard article impressed you, since they're essentially the ones I've been making to you for years (minus the crap about the criminal justice system being perfect).
ReplyDeleteMaybe I misunderstood, but I believe they said that colleges inflate their advertised tuition cost, but that the average price actually paid has not increased very much.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't read what I wrote at the link. The Weekly Standard is the single best collection of arguments against drug legalization, and yet I'm still not convinced.
You misunderstood that they limited the discussion to PRIVATE colleges, and that yes the net price actually paid by the student has not increased very much, but the price paid by aid providers has.
ReplyDeleteI did read what you wrote. You said it was the best argument against legalizing drugs you'd read. I was glad since it's been my argument for quite a while. I don't expect you to change your mind.
They said that PRIVATE colleges inflate their tuition, and the difference is paid by aid providers.
