  1. Dude, overpopulation is not a problem? Really? Population density and overpopulation are nowhere near the same thing, come on. One has to do with sheer space, while the other is much more complicated.

  2. Here's the Wiki definition: Overpopulation is a condition where an organism's numbers exceed the carrying capacity of its habitat.

I've heard people worry about that happening to humans. I feel like that link shows that we are not even close to that problem.

  3. But again, carrying capacity and space are not the same thing. Not all land is equally productive, and not all the products we use can be produced in the US, especially at the volume at which we consume them.

  4. I agree that just because we can fit everyone in a city the size of New Hampshire doesn't mean we could fit all our farms, ranches, and fisheries. But that doesn't mean we are at or near capacity now. My only point was that we could (and will) fit a lot more people in this country.

  6. But for how long? That's the question...

  7. If population growth patterns in the industrial word are a signal of future global trends, I think population will begin to shrink in our children's lifetime. I don't think we'll hit capacity before then.

  8. And if we did, the price of having children would go up and people would have less anyways.

  9. The point remains that the infographic you linked to does not support the idea that "overpopulation is not a problem." Overpopulation is about more than just land area, it's about resources, as the quote you posted states.
