Even Addicts Respond to Incentives

This has important legal and relational implications.


  1. Here's a scathing response in the Toronto Star:

    I personally think he's full of it. There's a reason that this argument was not published in a peer-reviewed journal.

  2. I didn't realize he was being scoffed so strongly in academia. That said, I'm not totally convinced. Although I haven't read his book, I think his main argument is that there is a certain amount of choice when it comes to addiction, even if it's the hardest choice you've ever had to make.

    And let me add, I'm certainly not trying to condemn addicts more with this research, I'm trying to encourage them.
